Module 1: Organisation, management, and communication

Module 1 focuses on enhancing the visibility and accessibility of the SWERVE infrastructure. In addition to ensuring that SWERVE is managed efficiently and as per the requirements of the Swedish Research Council and the Partners.

Objective

The objective of Module 1 is to ensure activities are carried out in a coordinated and that all opportunities and activities are communicated to the Swedish marine science
community. It encompasses the core support functions for the project such as reporting, coordination of the modules, overseeing the budget and undertaking communication activities for the project. This module is imperative for the efficient and effective delivery of a national research vessel infrastructure in support of Swedish marine research and ensures that the opportunities and access provided through the modules are visible and accessible to all potential users. GU is the Module Lead Organisation for Module 1.

Communication

A key issue that SWERVE addresses is the lack of integrated, easy-to-access information on
vessel operations and opportunities. Vessel availability, schedules and activities are generally
communicated to a discreet community, usually within a single organisation. In many cases,
researchers cannot easily access information on vessels outside of their own organisations, and similarly vessel operators have no clear communication channels to reach a wider national audience. Further, researchers from organisations that do not own/operate a research vessel find it very difficult to access ship-time, equipment, and technical expertise. Module 1 will ensure clear and openly accessible pathway for information flow and 2-way communication between researchers, technicians, and vessel operators nationally.

Coordination

GU is the Module Lead Organisation (MLO) for Module 1 and have established the secretariat. Module 1 underpins each of the modules, providing support to the MLOs for their coordination, activities, and communication. The Director and secretariat staff will work with participants of each Module to develop a clear and realistic timeline and provide support to the Modules to ensure the timeline is achieved.
