”It has been valuable to meet Sea-Bird Scientific, receive information and ask questions about the equipment we use,” says Åsa Hallberg, one of the 21 participants attending the workshop.
Held on 29 June – 2 July, the workshop was the fifth organised within SWERVE as part of the effort to create opportunities for researchers and technicians, foster collaboration and share expertise.
We can learn a lot from each other
The workshop aimed to help technicians continue developing their technical expertise while also strengthening professional connections across organisations.
”It is valuable to meet people from other organisations who work with similar tasks and to strengthen the ties between us. There is a lot we can learn from each other,” says Åsa Hallberg.
The workshop series will continue this autumn with a training course on board R/V Svea, focusing on the operation of the Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler, ADCP. This will be the final technician workshop within SWERVE 1.
More emphasis on supporting marine technicians
In 2027, SWERVE 2 will begin and run until 2030. The next phase will place even greater emphasis on supporting marine technicians through expanded training opportunities, networking activities and several new initiatives.
”These past few days have been a great reminder of how important it is for marine technicians to meet and exchange knowledge,” says Björn Lindell, Ship Operator for R/V Svea and work package lead for the National Marine Technicians Network in SWERVE 2.
Building a national network where experience is shared and communication channels are established is one of the main objectives of the National Marine Technicians Network. I am already looking forward to the next meeting!
