Skagerak
RV Skagerak is owned by the University of Gothenburg and operated by Northern Offshore Services. Completed in 2022, Skagerak offers state-of-the-art equipment for multidisciplinary marine research and education. It was built specifically to support Sweden’s marine research and education and can be chartered by any research users internationally. Skagerak has diesel-electric propulsion and Dynamic Positioning 1, and is classed as a Special Purpose Vessel, Ice Class 1B, Cleanship, with Sea Area A (all seas) range. Skagerak has a maximum endurance of 3 weeks at sea before requiring fuel and water.
Skagerak runs a number of courses for the University of Gothenburg each year, and these dates are set in October of the preceding year. All dates outside of these teaching weeks are available to be booked for research voyages.
Skagerak intends to spend several weeks each year in the North Atlantic (e.g. Iceland, Greenland, Svalbard, Norway) if there is enough research interest. SWERVE ship-time applications for research voyages in this region (and beyond) are therefore possible.
Skagerak usually operates within the yellow region shown on the map, however voyages can be undertaken in any seas.
Skagerak has operated throughout the Baltic Proper, Bothnia Bay, North Sea, Iceland, Greenland and Svalbard when there is a research request for it. Voyages that require long transits (i.e. orange regions) are possible if they precede or follow an existing Skagerak campaign in that region, or if there are several applications for ship time that can be done back-to-back.
